What is the Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR)?

WGNRR is an autonomous network of community-level organisations and activists from all over the world. WGNRR aims to create a global platform for learning and advocacy for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). WGNRR works to realise the full sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people, with a particular focus on the most marginalised and believes that achieving this goal requires transformative social change.

What is the overall objective of WGNRR?

WGNRR’s overall objective for the next five years is articulated thus:

WGNRR, with its members and partners, will effectively campaign and take action to achieve full sexual and reproductive health rights for all.  A particular focus will be placed on access to safe and legal abortion, access to contraceptives, sexual rights and the special needs of young people. To achieve this goal we will work to advance the implementation of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) targets within the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action (ICPD PoA) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

How does WGNRR define Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)?

WGNRR defines SRHR as interrelated, basic human rights which enable people to have safe, responsible and fulfilling sex lives; and the self determination to freely decide if, when and how often to have children, free from coercion, discrimination and violence. This includes the right of access to safe, legal abortion.

What is WGNRR’s stance on abortion?

WGNRR is a pro-choice network and works towards ensuring access to safe, legal abortion for all women. WGNRR fully supports a woman’s right to make choices about her own body and condemns anti-choice rhetoric and propaganda as oppressive and against basic rights.

Who funds WGNRR?

WGNRR receives both core and project-based funding. Please click here for a full list of our current and former funders.

Who are the members of WGNRR?

The WGNRR Membership predominantly consists of organisations, networks and individuals, working completely or partially (with a demonstrable interest) in SRHR, and fully subscribe to the WGNRR mission and vision (link to mission and vision). This includes the right of access to safe, legal abortion.

WGNRR members believe that the struggle for the realisation of reproductive rights of women is assisted by a collective voice. WGNRR members know that their individual organisations are strengthened by our collaborative efforts.

WGNRR membership is well represented in the different geographical regions. To learn more about the WGNRR membership please visit our WGNRR membership page.
