On the 17th of March, the Brazilian National Human Rights Secretary, Paulo Vannucchi, said that the Brazilian government had decided not to promote the legalisation of abortion as had been originally stated in the National Plan of Human Rights. Launched in 2009, the plan had been granted President Lula’s seal of approval.

On the 2nd of March, the Commission on the Status of Women adopted a Declaration on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.  On the 12th of March, the CSW adopted 7 new resolutions:
